This has 3 light levels and a strobe mode. The light is warm color but not to warm. It seems well made and won't tip over as base is bigger than most. Uses C type usb so less likely to break over time. Bottom can store a few cables in case you need to charge things like phones in emergency but not sure how much charge from battery will be used to charge phone. The size is about same size as original Coleman gas lantern. The flashing is good in case there are many similar cabins and you have to walk a ways in the dark to bathroom, you can find your cabin or camp tent easier if you use this as a marker. I did not test how long the battery will last before charging. It is so small but packs a punch and has multiple settings, highly recommend. This is a nice little light but most of the reviews are not for the proper light. This little light has a button on top that turns on very easily and is impossible to pack without unintentionally having it get turned on and the battery run down.Nice Lantern. For the price, I was expecting it to be a little more rugged. It is made of mostly lightweight plastic and feels like a 3-5 foot drop could crack or break it. For the casual, family camper ... this is a solid, little lantern to illuminate tents, outdoor dining areas or for a walk into the woods. Lots of pluses and minuses with this one.Pros:- Very bright. 800 lumens on high setting will illuminate a good sized tent or dining area! Most rechargeable camping lanterns are 400 - 500 lumens. You really notice the difference here with the high setting! The downside is this doesn't give you the warm, yellow glow of a gas lantern. It is a bright white, almost fluorescent light. Not romantic and cozy but very effective at brightening dark areas.- Seems to last long. On the high setting, it says it will last 5 hours on a full charge. I found it to be a bit less. There are 3 settings. The low setting is more of mood lighting than anything functional. They say it will last 15 hours, although I found significantly less. The medium setting is a bit useless ... as is the flashing one. Maybe as an emergency beacon, the flash would be useful but if you are using this piece of equipment in a remote, rugged setting where you may need rescue, you are doing something wrong to begin with.- I LOVE the little bottom storage area!! You unscrew the bottom and there is a little area where you can store the USB charging chord and there is enough room for a first aid kit, deck of cards or other small items. The carabiner type of handle closure is nice, although I can't figure out a particular use for it.- You never have to change the bulb as it is an LED light, which doesn't burn out and has no filament to break. You also don't have to buy/change batteries.(downside being you'll need access to an electric charger or strong power bank on longer trips.)Cons:- This is not at all rugged. The cheap plastic feels breakable and the package arrived pretty crushed. As you can see from my picture, the paint is a bit chipped and the clear plastic is a bit scratched. Over time/packing, I'd imagine the clear plastic will scratch easily and become more opaque after seeing this. The threads where the bottom screws in are thin plastic and I could see them cracking. This was made in China and not the Coleman product our parents grew up with, which were likely metal lanterns designed to last generations.- The lantern is so light that a breeze or wind will likely blow it. The top hanging bar is rounded and doesn't have a little groove in the top, as many lanterns do for hanging. This could easily blow or slide off a branch or pole as a result.- As mentioned, this has more of a bright, white LED light and not the soft, warm glow of a real lantern. I have other camp lanterns which replicate the glow of a lantern better. This is all about function vs. asthetic.Overall, the price is a bit high for how cheaply it is made but it has the nice retro look of a vintage lantern (when off) and will bring you back to the days of camping as a kid, if you grew up in the 1980's/1990's. I doubt this will last for generations but the 800 lumen light is very handy. I tried to demonstrate by taking a photo of the area lit in a dark room. Also, this is taller than I thought it would be based on the advertising photos. Value is iffy, performance is good. I hope this review/photos helped you make a shopping decision.I am and always have been a tent camper, I prefer to pitch my tent, cook dinner over an open fire and cozy into a sleeping bag on the ground. The first thing I unpack when I get to a campsite is my ancient Coleman lantern, light it up and keep it nearby in case I am visited by critters during the night. I would say that lantern is indestructible but that’s not true, the glass is very fragile and especially so when it is hot from being on all evening. But that’s a small price to pay for a lantern that I can trust my life to.THIS REPLICAI have mixed feeling about replicas, whenever possible I prefer to own the original, but I also appreciate nostalgia and as a techie I fully believe in and support the forward march of technology. This item, from a distance, could almost be mistaken for the original. Same color, about the same size, the same basic function of lighting up the campsite. Once you get a little closer you see it for what it is, a Chinese made replica that’s nearly 100% plastic. At least with a plastic lens I can rest assured that it will never break. The function of it is obvious. This isn’t my first LED camping lantern by a long shot. I have at least six of them, mostly plastic devices not much more advanced than a toy. But they are useful and they do throw off a lot of light. Unfortunately that light is the typical garish white/blue that is illuminating today’s world and it’s difficult to put the mood it creates in the same category at all as a lantern the lights up by burning a cloth mantle. And purist will miss the hissing sound a classic Coleman makes, whether it is gas fueled or the more recent propane tank models.TAKING A TOURTaking a closer look you find that the gas regulator knob is now the on/off and dimmer switch and next to it is a USB charging port. One cool idea is that there is a place hidden when the fuel tank was to store the cord up when you’re not using it. Smart. That garish LED look is not an issue here, they have set the color temperature to a warm glow that looks as close as possible to the original lantern. The switch is not variable, there are four positions to it. The first two light only the top LED which really give it the look of a burning mantle. The highest position lights the bottom half of the light tube as well and produces 700 lumens. That is VERY bright, enough to light up my entire living room and easily enough to illuminate a camp site. The final position is a flashing light. Why? They say emergencies, but I use it all the time to use when I am deep woods camping so I can find my way back to my camp site. It’s a brilliant, excuse the pun, idea. The run times they quote are accurate, at a comfortable lighting position of the two lowest settings you can easily complete a camping trip of several nights without a recharge and if you use the highest position you can read an entire book while sitting around the campfire.Speaking of charging it, they do not include a charger (it seems no one does anymore). There are a series of small LED lights to let you know how much battery power you have and also when the unit is fully charged. There is also an “emergency” port to give your phone or other device a quick boost if you ever need it.IS IT WORTH ITThe question is whether it is worth seventy-five bucks. That depends on your perspective. If you are buying it strictly for function there are hundreds of LED camping lanterns that cost a fraction of the price and most will do a similar job. So no, on its own it is just a piece of plastic that Coleman has their name stamped on and it’s not worth the price. But if you’ve owned a classic Coleman or you wish you did but want the practicality of a twenty-first century rechargeable device this is probably worth it for the nostalgia value - it does look kind of cool and the bottom line is overall I like it.The lamp was on sale so I took a chance... and bought 4 of them. I absolutely love that they're so bright without being that irritating blueish bright white kind of light. Instead it is a warmer white similar to the LED lighting inside my home. It is not so warm that is yellow though. What I dislike about this is where the hook/handle ends. I bought this to hang on my patio umbrella when eating out on the patio or hang on the canopy tent at the campsite. I feel if it was super windy and the lamp swung enough, it could potentially fall off of whatever I hung it on. It'd be more likely to happen on my offset patio umbrella than the canopy tent at the campsight though.
