Mountain Warehouse Wind Up Lantern - Rechargeable LED Camping Light for Outdoor Adventures, Hiking, Emergency & Power Outages

This is a Made in China, wind-up, LED lantern. While not top quality, it is entirely adequate and not a bad value.Nothing on this device is high end but everything works. The light source is a 12 LED array and the three lighting levels are 4 LED's illuminated, or 8 LEDs on or all 12 LED's on. The LEDs are mounted on a lower reflector and aimed at an upper reflector. The distribution of light is very even but the total output isn't much. This is a good light for general illumination but not enough for reading. The unit is fairly compact at 10.5" tall and about 5.25" in diameter. It is far too large for a backpack and probably wouldn't tolerate harsh conditions or exposure to weather for long. The shield around the LEDs and reflectors is clear plastic, the guard around that is steel wire. The body and top are plastic. The crank that is used to wind the device is plastic but secured by screws, so it may be replaceable if it breaks. There's a round female jack labeled "DC" that I assume can be used to charge the battery in the device or maybe charge something else from this device or maybe both. There are no instructions or additional cables. That jack is flanked by two LEDs, one green and one red. I can only assume those are charging indicators.I would not recommend this device as a primary light source for long term use or as a sole light source for an emergency. This is an inexpensive light used to find and set up other light sources. The advantage of this lantern is its wind-up power source. It has a good chance of working when you need it, and it only needs to work long enough to set up a better light source.Because the definition of a flashlight is, "A Metal Tube Used To Store Dead Batteries", a wind-up light can be very useful when you're in the dark and looking for a better light.Bottom line - Not heavy duty, probably not real tough but it works and doesn't cost a lot.
